During my 12-week internship at Amway, I redesigned the Amway Design System website, a central resource used by designers and developers to access brand components, patterns, and code. The redesign focused on reducing complexity, modernizing the interface, and introducing new features that enabled developers to directly implement components. I collaborated with the Global Digital Design team while exploring AI-powered tools such as Figma Make, Figma Sites, and Lovable.

The Challenge

The existing Amway Design System website was overwhelming, outdated, and designed primarily for designers, leaving developers without a clear way to access or implement code. Its cluttered structure and limited functionality made it difficult to find components, slowed adoption of the design system, and risked inconsistencies across Amway’s digital products.

To address this, I redesigned the site to simplify navigation, modernize the experience, and added new features, enabling both designers and developers to efficiently use and implement system components.

How might we make career exploration and future planning easier for students through clearer, more interactive alumni insights?

Design Principles

Clarity at Consistency

Provide a clean, intuitive structure that aligns with Amway’s modern design system standards, ensuring designers and developers find resources without confusion.

Cross-Functional Usability

Cater equally to designers and developers by offering both visual guidance and usable code snippets for faster, more consistent implementation.

Future-Forward Integration

Leverage new AI-powered tools and coding innovations (e.g., Vibe Coding, Figma Sites, Lovable) to future-proof the design system’s usability and adoption.

My Approach

I first spoke with global designers and developers to learn what they needed most from the design system, uncovering requests like visible change logs and updated component documentation. I also explored and familiarized myself with using new vibe coding tools to shape a more efficient, future-ready platform.

Stage 4. User testing and iteration

  • Organized user testing sessions with a diverse group of participants to gather feedback on the app's usability and appeal. Utilized both in-person and remote testing methods to collect a wide range of insights.

  • Analyzed feedback to identify usability issues and areas for improvement. Implemented design iterations to address user concerns, enhance the app's functionality, and improve the overall user experience.

Stage 5. Final presentation and handoff

  • Compiled and presented a comprehensive project report to the internship team and stakeholders, detailing the design process, user testing findings, and final app design. The presentation highlighted the app's potential to foster social connections through shared dining experiences.

  • Prepared and delivered design specifications and assets to the development team, ensuring a smooth handoff and providing support during the initial stages of app development.
